Libraries Course Materials List

A guide for instructors to learn how to manage and edit the Libraries Course Materials tool in Canvas.

Accessibility Practices for Course Reserves & Libraries Course Materials

Here are a few practices and processes you can expect when working with Libraries staff to make available course materials for your students:

  • Electronic content, including journal articles (HTML), streaming video, websites, and book chapters (HTML), for example, is linked whenever possible in lieu of or in addition to including file uploads such as PDFs or video files.

  • PDFs created from digitizing print materials are scanned at 400dpi and include Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Currently, we do not provide tagging for these files.

  • Manually-digitized streaming videos, hosted through YuJa, include English captions for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. If a subtitle track is not available for the version digitized version, English subtitles (typically dialogue only) are used instead. A .txt file transcript supplied by YuJa is available by request. Contact Zach Eden at librariesreserves@unl.edu to request a transcript.

  • The platform for Libraries Course Materials is Leganto, which follows W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 21. level "Double-A", and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d). More information on Leganto and accessibility is available on the Product Accessibility page.

  • To request accessibility remediation for Libraries materials complete the Report a Problem form.

Digital Accessibility Checklists from the CTT

These checklists are handy resources about digital accessibility standards across a wide range of file types and applications. These and other checklists are available for download at: https://teaching.unl.edu/resources/accessibility-and-universal-design-learning/checklist/
