Libraries Course Materials List

A guide for instructors to learn how to manage and edit the Libraries Course Materials tool in Canvas.

Why use the Libraries Course Materials tool?

Libraries Course Materials is a library service and tool integrated into Canvas that allows course materials to be seamlessly delivered to students. Instructors may add books, articles, videos and other media, websites, and more. Students will have access to no-cost course materials wherever they are located.

Add materials yourself, or submit your reading list to the Libraries. We will build the list for you!

Libraries Course Materials 2.0 Pilot for Fall 2025 - Your Students Might be able to Access Course Materials for Free (or for Less)

The UNL Libraries is seeking instructors to participate in a Libraries Course Materials 2.0 pilot for Fall 2025 courses. Instructors at UNL have a variety of options for lowering textbook costs for students, including no-cost options (via Libraries-provided materials and Open Educational Resources) and reduced-cost options (via Inclusive Access programs available through Follett and Unizin). The Libraries have implemented new tools and workflows to determine the lowest-cost options available for instructor-selected course materials and are seeking instructors to collaborate with us to pilot our expanded program.

Pilot participants may discover their required course materials are available to students at a lower-cost than in previous semesters, provided by the Libraries at no-cost or at reduced-cost by an Inclusive Access program.

All pilot participants will benefit from confirmation that they are making available to their students the lowest-cost option for their course materials, available to students on the first day of the semester.

Pilot Details

We are seeking 30-50 course sections to participate in a pilot for Fall 2025 courses. Instructor participants will be asked to submit their course material lists for Fall 2025 to the Libraries during the course materials ordering period. We will solicit feedback on the process at the conclusion of the pilot.
