Newspapers

Library databases that contain news and news information

Newspaper Overview

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries no longer receives many daily print newspapers.

Instead, newspaper material is primarily accessed through a variety of library subscription databases, microfilm, and open access web sites.

Before You Start Your Research

Keep in mind. . .

When looking for newspapers and/or newspaper articles, there are some things to consider:

  • Are you looking for current news or a news story from the past?
  • Do you want just a standalone article, or do you want to see it as it was originally published, in the context of the larger issue?
  • Does you need to have access to any sort of graphic, visual, or illustration that accompanied an article when it was published?
  • Are you looking for news coverage by a U.S. or non-U.S. newspaper?
  • Does language matter?
  • Are you just looking for articles on a topic, or do you need to do a more in depth content analysis of a newspaper?

The answers you have for the questions above may impact where and how you look for information.
