New York Times access for University of Nebraska-Lincoln: New York Times in Education

New York Times in Education

In addition to all of the content available on NYTimes.com, UNL affiliates also have access to a companion resource called the New York Times in Education. This site is designed to help faculty and students identify ways to incorporate NYTimes.com content into the curriculum and connect the real world to the classroom.

This site is also free but requires a separate registration process and login, again using your official UNL email address (you can opt to use the same password for both sites).

After registering, you can log into https://nytimesineducation.com

The site is currently divided into 16 areas of study:

  • American Government
  • Arts & Visual Culture
  • Biology
  • Business
  • Campaigns & Elections
  • Criminal Justice
  • Environmental Studies
  • International Relations
  • Leadership
  • Macroeconomics
  • Microeconomics
  • Nursing & Health
  • Psychology
  • Religious Studies
  • Sociology
  • Writing & English Composition

Each subject area has a designated faculty contributor who provides content to the category on a regular basis.  Each entry includes an article or multimedia piece from the NYTimes.com site, a detailed synopsis or analysis of the article, and a list of discussion prompts and/or an activity based on the article to be used with students. Within each area of study, you can either browse the articles or filter them by subject heading and/or a specified learning outcome (e.g., ethical reasoning). You can also search the entirety of the collection by keyword.  The categories also list additional NYTimes.com resources, such as newspaper sections of interest to that topic, recommended blogs, and journalists to follow.

The site has a section on "General Instructional Strategies" that are submitted by faculty and staff across the country. Each submission describes how the NYTimes.com was incorporated into an assignment or course.
