Biological Systems Engineering: Finding Journal Articles

This guide will provide useful information to help you conduct research in Biological Systems Engineering.

Search Basics

Use OR to expand your search:  1) feed* or ration* or supplement*;
2) cattle or cow or cows or bull or bulls or steer or steers or heifer*;
3) soybean* or soyabean* or glycine max

Use AND to narrow and focus a search: 1 and 2 and 3 (from above); soil and fertilizer*
Truncate (usually using an asterik *) to find any ending for the word: Be careful of short words, i.e. color* (will also get colorado), pig* (will also get pigment), etc.

Think carefully if use NOT -- you may eliminate important items.

Accessing Journal Articles

Be aware:

-- Not all journals are available electronically;

-- The years of coverage available electronically varies widely;

-- The number of clicks it takes to get to the actual article varies also... from one to ten, and depends on how the access is set up.
