Assessing the Impact of Research

More Resources

The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) describes best practices for assessing research and applies to all disciplines. These recommendations were developed during the Annual Meeting of The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) in San Francisco, CA, on December 16, 2012. Some of their recommendations include:

  • Don't use journal-based metrics to evaluate  the quality of research articles.
  • Recognize other research products (e.g. datasets, software) in addition to peer-reviewed journal articles.

The Leiden Manifesto, published as a comment in Nature on April 22, 2015 presents 10 principles regarding research evaluation.
