Measure Your Research Impact: Becker Model of Research Impact

Information and resources about how to measure research impact

The Becker Model of Research Impact

How to Use the Model

"How to Use the Model"

Though designed for the biomedical research, the Becker Model specifies "pathways" that are applicable to other disciplines.  In this section you will find resources that define those pathways, and resources that demonstrate evidence of outputs and activities within them.

The Becker Model is organized into the following pathways of diffusion:

  • Advancement of Knowledge
  • Clinical Implementation
  • Community Benefit
  • Legislation and Policy
  • Economic Benefit

"Diffusion represents translation of research outputs and activities that result in research impact. Diffusion is manifested in a variety of indicators that are categorized in pathways that represent specific areas where research impact can be identified. Pathways are flexible and fluid, and there may be overlap of indicators between pathways."

"The Becker List: Impact Indicators"

This is the Reference Version of the model.  This document lists impact indicators and supplies examples of research outputs and activities.

"Glossary of Resources"

A comprehensive list of resources for medical research and information.

"Glossary of Terms"

A comprehensive list of definitions for each of the pathways, terms related to medical research, and terms related to research impact generally.
