Resources of use to students taking Technical Communications II

Prepare to Use Write-N-Cite

To use Write-N-Cite you must first Download the Plug-in.  While in RefWorks:

Click Tools (upper menu bar)

Select Write-n-Cite

Download whichever plug in you need based on your operating system

For MAC users:  RefWorks will work with any software that allows you to save or export documents in a .doc, .docx, .rtf or .odt format. This does include Pages, OpenOffice, LibreOffice and most other word processors available on a Mac.

Using Write-n-Cite

Open Microsoft Word and start writing you paper.  When you get to the point of needing to insert a citation:

Click the desktop Write-N-Cite icon  [Mac users:  launch Write-n-Cite from Applications folder]

From there Log into RefWorks

Check the Always on Top box (upper left corner)

Change to the Folder View pull down menu (menu bar)

In your Document, put a space between the last word and the end punctuation

Choose the citation you need, click Cite

Continue to write

When you're finished, click Bibliography in the Write-n-Cite toolbar

Select your citation style

Click Create Bibliography
