How They Work Together

These are 3 separate systems that are connected. How and when you choose to use one system over another is up to you. In general, the purpose for each system is defined as:

1. Teams is a place to chat and collaborate with your organization/department or a team you create.

2. Sharepoint is a place to create, share and store files/documents with your organization/department. (a.k.a The Libraries Intranet).

3. OneDrive is a place to create and store your individual files/documents. A cloud version of 'My Documents'.

SharePoint and Teams are connected through file sharing/storing and opening channels of communication:

1. Every Teams channel has a SharePoint team site and every SharePoint team site has a Teams channel.

2. Files you collaborate on in Teams are stored in SharePoint under the channel name.

3. Teams channel SharePoint sites have a prefix of 'UNL-' (with the exception of the UNL-University Libraries Sharepoint site.) 4. If you create a team in Teams -- and store files through Teams (which technically stores it on the SharePoint site for that channel). Keep in mind only the people on the team you created will have access to those files.

You can access your OneDrive files directly through Teams. While in Teams, click the 3 "..." in the left panel > Files. A link to your OneDrive should show up under the Cloud Storage header. A video with instructions is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NhLqpYsz-I

OneDrive and SharePoint are connected through the ability to share files/folders you created for your own use (stored in your OneDrive) with individuals you are connected with through SharePoint. Files/folders are private to YOU unless you decide to share them OR physically move them to a SharePoint site.
