Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon 2024

Need a place to start?

If you have:

  • 1 hour or less make some simple edits to existing pages.
  • 90 minutes find a source in your area of expertise and add links and citations
  • 2+ hours add a well cited paragraph to an article in your area of interest or expertise.
  • 3 hours and are an expert Wikipedia editor, consider creating a new article. Be sure to gather your reliable sources in advance, or a librarian on site can help you gather reliable sources.

Sourcing Existing Articles

Citation Hunt is a tool for suggesting articles with missing citations to be added. Try searching for "women's history" or "women in (fill in the blank with a topic of your choice)". These searches will return articles that need more citations.

Improving & Expanding Existing Articles

The quality of Wikipedia articles varies widely; many are very good, but some lack depth and clarity, contain bias or are out of date. In general, high-quality articles:

Pick an article that needs improvement and be bold in your edits.

Creating New Articles

After determining that the topic of the article you want to create meets Wikipedia's notability standards, you can use the Article Wizard to get started or practice creating a draft in your personal sandbox.
