EndNote Essentials

An introduction to EndNote for Mac, PC, and Online versions

What is EndNote Online?

EndNote has two online options available at UNL.

  1. EndNote Online: This is the cloud-based service that comes with the full version of EndNote Desktop. Note that you will need to purchase the full EndNote before you can use it.
  2. EndNote Online with Web of Science (WoS): This is the cloud-based version of EndNote, which provides the basic functionality. To see how the features compare to the full version of EndNote look at the comparison table. To create an account for this version see below.

EndNote Online WoS is a simplified online only version of EndNote, and can be used either with the desktop version or on its own.

To sign up for an account go to: https://access-clarivate-com.libproxy.unl.edu/login?app=endnote

Sign up for an account using your UNL email address, but do not use your UNL password.

If you have a lot of references and want to store and highlight many PDFs, the desktop version of EndNote will be your best option.  If you want to store references and some PDF documents online the basic version may work well for you.

How do I use EndNote Onlline?

No matter which version of EndNote Online you are using the interface and functionality are largely the same. Here are instructions for adding, organizing, sharing, and citing citations in the online version.
