E-Resources: Off Campus Access

Off-Campus Access to the Library resources

The University Libraries subscribes to a number of online resources available through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries website.  Due to contractual and licensing agreements, these resources are only available to University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty, staff and currently enrolled students.

From Off-campus, you will be prompted to enter your Last name, NU ID number (from your NCard) and Password to verify that you are either a current employee or currently enrolled student at University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  You will be asked to establish your password the first time you login to your Library account or one of the Library databases.

 

Virtual Private Network (VPN) : Secure Off-Campus Access

You may also use VPN to access Library resources. The Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides University of Nebraska-Lincoln users a secure, encrypted connection to University of Nebraska-Lincoln internal resources from anywhere.  All users are required to use the VPN in order to use remote desktop to connect to most campus resources from any remote location, but is not required for access to webmail or University of Nebraska-Lincoln library resources.  

Once you have successfully connected to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln VPN on any given machine, you do not have to go to the website again. The VPN software is installed locally on your workstation. You can then launch the University of Nebraska-Lincoln VPN from your applications folder or Start menu.

Non-Univeristy of Nebraska-Lincoln / Community Users

Off-campus access to licensed e-resources is NOT available for non-University of Nebraska-Lincoln affiliates.

Anyone may use the e-resources when they visit one of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln libraries in person. You may register for a Community User card at the main User Services Desk which will allow you to use one of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries computers to access most of the e-resources, including the databases, e-journals, online reference works, as well as the online music and image collections.

Licensing Restrictions

Most electronic resources purchased by the Library require a license agreement with the publisher, or supplier, and have restrictions on use and access.  
In general, the following terms apply:

1. Access to some resources may be limited to on-campus use only.

2. Users of these resources must abide by existing copyright legislation including fair use and library use.

3. It is prohibited to systematically download or programmatically copy articles and other information obtained from electronic resources.

4. Articles may not be downloaded in large quantities or centrally stored for later retrieval.

5. It is prohibited to republish in print or electronic form.

6. Resources may not be used for commercial purposes, such as bulk reproduction or distribution.
