A-Z Professional Organizations
"The Bioinformatics Organization, Inc. serves the scientific and educational needs of bioinformatic practitioners and the general public. We develop and maintain computational resources to facilitate world-wide communications and collaborations between people of all educational and professional levels. We provide and promote open access to the materials and methods required for, and derived from, research, development and education."
Bioinformatics and Bioengineering Technical Committee (BBTC)
"The aims of FESPB are to advance research, education, and the exchange of information amongst plant biologists within Europe and beyond, and to support the publication of the results of research through its six affiliated international journals: Journal of Experimental Botany, Journal of Plant Physiology, Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, Physiologia Plantarum, Plant Biology and Functional Plant Biology." They also produce a regular newsletter.
Bioinformatics ITalian Society (B.IT.S.)
"The Bioinformatics ITalian Society (B.IT.S.) aims at joining research scientists interested in Bioinformatics, meant as a multi-disciplinary science for the study of biological systems at the molecular and cellular level by using informatics and computational methods and models. Main goals of the associations are the study, development and spreading of Bioinformatics in a scientific, academic, technologic and industrial environment."
British Society for Cell Biology
The Society organizes and supports meetings and conferences relevant to cell biology and plays an increasing role in raising awareness of science policy issues in the UK.
International Society for Clinical Biostatistics (ISCB)
ISCB "was founded in 1978 to stimulate research into the principles and methodology used in the design and analysis of clinical research and to increase the relevance of statistical theory to the real world of clinical medicine."
"ISCB’s membership include clinicians, statisticians and members of other disciplines, such as epidemiologists, clinical chemists and clinical pharmacologists, working or interested in the field of clinical biostatistics."
International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB)
ISCB has 2500+ members from almost 70 countries. It serves members through annual meetings, & jointly hosts ISMB. It works toward "scientific policies, providing access to high quality publications, organizing meetings, and serving as a portal to information about training, education, employment and news from related fields." It publishes 2 journals "of the highest impact factors in the Mathematical & Computational Biology category, and has affiliations in place with several other publications".
MidSouth Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Society (MCBIOS)
"The organization sponsors an annual conference in the mid-south region. MCBIOS seeks to foster networking and collaboration, and promote the professional development of its members. Both senior members and students will find MCBIOS to be a welcoming environment for both presenting on-going research in the form of posters and presentations, as well as publishing peer-reviewed papers based on that work in the annual proceedings."
Molecular Graphics and Modelling Society (MGMS)
Founded in 1906:
"The Society's purpose is to advance the science of biochemistry and molecular biology through publication of scientific and educational journals: the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Molecular & Cellular Proteomics, and the Journal of Lipid Research, organization of scientific meetings, advocacy for funding of basic research and education, support of science education at all levels, and promoting the diversity of individuals entering the scientific workforce."
JAPANESE SOCIETY FOR BIOINFORMATICS
"The purpose of JSBi is to perform research in bioinformatics, conduct investigations into its techniques, and exchange research and knowledge in the field in order to promote these and related activities, as well as contribute to the field's educational base."
World Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists.
WATOC was created "in order to encourage the development and application of theoretical methods generally. The most conspicuous activities have been the WATOC World Congresses (the 8th was held in Sydney Australia in 2008), but WATOC has sponsored or co-sponsored numerous smaller conferences on more specialized topics, and serves to facilitate contacts and to disseminate information."
