Plat maps show current ownership of the land. This can be helpful in tracing your family.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries also have plat maps for some unincorporated areas of western Nebraska. These are located in the LDRF. To find if the Libraries has a plat map in your area of interest, search the Libraries catalog, by the county name and farm and home plat directory. For example: "Adams County Farm and Home Plat Directory" will retrieve the call number and location.
If you cannot find a plat map for the area you are interested in, contact the County Engineer. Again, you will need township and range coordinates to be successful.
USGS Maps:
Topographic maps can be useful in locating land and buildings. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Geology Library located in Bessey Hall has the largest collection of topographic maps in the state. The 7.5 and 15 minutes give the greatest detail. These are shelved by state and quadrangle name. To locate the desired quadrangle, use the paper index located in the first drawer of each state, or go online to the National Map linked below.
